Welcome to the new version of the blog! I'm not sure why I'm surprised, but immediately after my "just hit publish" resolution, I immediately focused on the "replatform the blog" thing, instead of the "write more often" thing.

In any case, here it is! I've finally gotten off Ghost as a publishing platform, which feels nice. The new blog is powered by Kirby, which is about as different from Ghost as it's possible to be. It's built on top of PHP, and stores content in flat files. Very easy to build, host and backup (or transfer content in the future).

I also took the opportunity to build my own theme from scratch, and I'm reasonably happy with how it's shaping up. There are still a lot of rough edges (my concession to the original resolution, I guess). Things still on the "to do" list:

  • Look at adding photo galleries (if it doesn't chew up too much storage / bandwidth)
  • Start writing something (anything!) to go in the Articles section
  • Various fit and finish items with the theme
  • Proper SEO / metadata to make things look nice when I post them to Facebook

Still - now that it's live, there's one less excuse for actually writing more. Maybe...

Yours etc,
Patto
